Setting Up Geo-Based Check-In

Geo-based check-in lets members check themselves in only when they're physically at the class location. It's a simple way to confirm attendance and cut down on people checking in from home or the parking lot.

How it works

  • When a member is close enough to the class location, the check-in button lights up and they can tap to check in.
  • Location is based on the address set for that class, so the class has to have an address saved under its location settings.
  • Members generally need to be within about 20 meters of the location to check in.
  • If the app doesn't think they're close enough, the button switches to "Get closer to check-in" instead. This is the fallback for when GPS isn't reading their position accurately.

Before you start

Make sure the class has an address saved under Location Settings. Without an address, the app has nothing to measure against, and geo-based check-in won't work.

How to enable it

  1. Head to the Check-In page in your settings.
  2. Find the Geo-Based Check-In section.
  3. Turn on Enable in-app check-in. This has to be on for check-in to work at all.
  4. Turn on Geo-Based Check-In to add the location requirement on top of it.
  5. Save your changes.

A quick note on that first toggle: you can turn on in-app check-in without geo-based check-in, but we don't recommend it. Without the location requirement, members can check in from anywhere, which defeats most of the purpose.

A heads-up on accuracy

GPS isn't perfect, especially indoors. In buildings with a lot of concrete or shared spaces like WeWork, the app may not be able to tell exactly how close a member is. When that happens, they'll see the "Get closer to check-in" message even if they're already in the room. If members run into this regularly, double-check the class address is accurate and let them know stepping toward a window or door can sometimes help the signal.
